Grenfell Settlement (Land Use) Strategy

Project Description

We assisted Weddin Shire Council to prepare a land use strategy for the urban area of the Town of Grenfell.  There had never been a comprehensive strategy for growth for this town.  The urban strategy sought to identify growth areas for employment uses (industrial and commercial) and separate these from existing and potential growth areas for residential uses.  The town has a number of environmental constraints from flooding, bushfire, mine subsidence, and topography that needed to be addressed.  It sought to also build upon the unique heritage and historic streetscapes of this former gold mining town by looking at ways to facilitate adaptive re-use of main street buildings to adapt to changing retail pressures whilst maintaining the character that makes it such an attractive town.  There was engagement with a cross-section of the town’s community and its Councillors and Council staff and NSW Government to have this strategy approved.  It also integrated with a previous strategy for large lot residential uses iPLAN PROJECTS had prepared in 2016.
